Through a rigorous vetting process including video interviews, travel document review and host family background checks, 4Ukraine.ca will ensure that the Ukrainians participating in the program have a financial need, a place to stay when they land, and have a resume written or have already applied to jobs. This ensures that program participants are safe upon arrival and well-prepared to live in Canada.

Although GlobalMedic uses a variety of ways to deliver aid to the intended recipients including packing the aid at home in Toronto and shipping it in containers, nothing can compare to actually having boots on the ground in the disaster zone or affected area.
By being in Romania and less than 45km from the Ukrainian border we were able to monitor where those fleeing the war were staying and tailor the aid to their immediate needs. We purchased culturally appropriate and bulk food locally and repackaged that food into individual aid boxes that were then distributed to families (mainly women and children) that were staying in refugee shelters in Romania. We also crossed the border into Ukraine and distributed the boxes to some of the estimated 7 million Internally Displaced People that had fled the active war zones and were staying in university dorms or with local host families throughout the region.

By being on the front lines of the distribution we were asked and easily added other items to the aid packages that had become scarce to find commodities inside Ukraine, a change that would have taken a substantial period of time had we not physically been there.
And thanks to FlightHub for getting us there, as we were also able to sneak a huge amount of chocolate and other treats to the children. Their smiles were priceless.
